Caring for your Flowers

Caring for your Flowers

Wondering how to look after your flowers once you get them home? With just a little extra care, your fresh-cut flowers will brighten your space for days to come. Follow these simple tips to keep them looking their best.

1. Trim the Stems

As soon as you receive your flowers, trim about an inch off the bottom of each stem using sharp, clean scissors or floral shears. This allows the flowers to absorb water more effectively, and prevents air bubbles from blocking water uptake. You should also remove any leaves that fall below the water line.

2. Use Clean Water & Change Regularly

Place your flowers in a clean vase filled with fresh water. Change the water every 2-3 days to minimise bacteria buildup and ensure your flowers stay hydrated. When you change the water, be sure to trim the stems again to help them drink more effectively.

3. Add Flower Food

Flower food provides essential nutrients to help your blooms last longer. If you don’t have any shop bought flower food, a teaspoon of sugar and a few drops of vinegar can work as an alternative.

4. Place in a Cool, Well-Lit Area

Flowers last longer in cooler spaces. Keep your flowers in a spot that’s out of direct sunlight, away from drafts, and free from heat sources like radiators or appliances. A cool room is perfect for maximising their lifespan.

5. Remove Any Wilting Flowers

As the days pass, remove any wilting or dead flowers from the arrangement. This helps prevent bacteria from spreading to the healthy flowers and keeps the arrangement looking fresh.

6. Avoid Ethylene Gas

Ethylene gas is produced by some fruits and vegetables (such as apples, bananas, and avocados), and it can cause flowers to wilt faster. Keep your flowers away from these items to extend their freshness.

Our flowers are fresh, naturally grown, and free from chemical treatments, so while they may not last as long as chemically treated stems, we guarantee a 5-day vase life. With proper care, however, and from following the steps above, we hope they bloom beautifully for even longer.
